2015 is shaping up to be an excellent vintage for Vancouver Island wineries and harvest is just around the corner at Averill Creek. The extended hot, dry growing season has provided perfect conditions to produce world class wines. In fact, grape vines thrive in the heat and require very little moisture to produce quality fruit. We are looking forward to an abundant harvest with potentially greater volumes than any other year in our history. As harvest approaches, we are hoping for continued warm weather and minimal moisture. Picking will most likely begin at the end of September and continue until the second week of October. Our vineyard manager, Terry Trapnell, captured these photos of our grapes in early September, already well on their way to ripeness.
